Field based learning connects youth to natural sciences and to stewardship. We present a field trip, using our own Great Lakes garden, that connects the unique soils and plant communities of the Great Lakes with NGSS goals. We use interactive activities to explore soils, plant adaptations and ecosystems to engage students and explore how human impacts, including climate change, may affect these systems now and in the future. Learn how to use these activities in your classroom and/or local naturalized sites and take away resources to explore unique plant communities near you.
