How do we get students excited about “Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information” when they feel disconnected from the research? This practice becomes meaningful when students participate in fieldwork as part of a network of other students and scientists collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. Given the opportunity to experience data-collection first-hand, students see how their place in the Great Lakes Watershed connects and contributes to student and scientist research across the state and beyond.
