I'm Liz, Youth Education Coordinator at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. I facilitate K-12 field trips and develop programs that enrich classroom learning. Our nature education field trips are interactive and inquiry based, rooted in NGSS and support classroom learning. MBGNA's mission is to promote stewardship and sustainability through education and research.
My presentation helps teachers explore four Great Lakes ecosystems that illustrate biotic and abiotic diversity and considers the impacts of human and naturally occurring events to which organisms are adapted. Students use workbooks to gather information about connections within an ecosystem and consider ways in which actions positively or negatively influence our shared, unique natural heritage. Teachers leave with resources to relate ecosystem dynamics and human impact on the environment with their middle and high school students.
